What the Enhanced Remaster DLC adds
Five changes: native 4K, HDR, 120 fps support, upscaled textures, and a 2x Game Speed toggle. No new chapters, characters or achievements.
The Enhanced Remaster DLC is a graphics and pacing upgrade for the 2018 PC release, not new content. Its store description lists five changes and nothing else, which makes the value question unusually easy to answer: you are paying $9.99 for four visual switches and a speed toggle.
What the DLC changes, item by item
| Change | What it does | Who feels it |
|---|---|---|
| Native 4K output | Renders at 3840x2160 instead of upscaling a lower internal resolution | 4K display owners |
| HDR | High dynamic range output, so bright lamps and dark industrial interiors keep detail | HDR-capable monitors and TVs |
| 120 fps support | Unlocks frame rates above 60 | High refresh-rate displays |
| Upscaled character and environment textures | Sharper texture detail on characters and scenery | Everyone, including 1080p |
| 2x Game Speed | Doubles the pace of play | Everyone who finds the game slow |
The store text is explicit that these are additions to the 4K/HD Edition — "this content significantly expands the available graphics options" — and the only gameplay-adjacent item is the speed toggle. There are no new chapters, characters, weapons, achievements or balance changes in the listing.
What it does not change
- The achievement list stays at 47. If you were hoping the DLC would give you a fresh completion to chase, it does not. The achievements page is the full base-game list.
- Combat is untouched. Charge times, scratch and direct damage, Bezels and Tri-Attacks behave the same. The combat system page applies to both versions.
- The world map is untouched. Hex unlocking, terminals and the map puzzle are identical.
- Save files are the same format as far as the store describes, and the game keeps 50 manual slots plus a suspend save.
Is it worth $9.99
Depends on one thing: how much the frame rate and the walking bother you.
If you play on a 1440p or 4K screen and the 2018 release feels soft, the upscaled textures plus native 4K are a visible difference, and HDR on an HDR panel is a bigger jump than the resolution change. If you are on a 1080p 60 Hz monitor, the honest answer is that the only feature you will notice every session is the 2x speed toggle.
The base game is long — 16 chapters plus a prologue, with a world map you rebuild by hand — and traversal is a large share of that time. A speed toggle changes the felt length of the game more than any texture pack.
What to check before buying
- Confirm you own app 645730 (the 4K/HD Edition). The DLC does nothing without it.
- Confirm your platform is Windows. The Steam listing is a Windows build, and console storefronts are a separate release line.
- Check free space: the Enhanced Remaster page lists 90 GB, against 16 GB for the 2018 release.
- If the purchase does not start downloading, that is a known fault with a known fix — see DLC install fix.
After installing
Turning on 4K, HDR and 120 fps at the same time is where most people hit a wall. The graphics settings page walks through the trade-offs, and 2x Game Speed covers when the toggle helps and when it makes the game harder.
