Resonance of Fate

Green energy hexes and how to farm them

Quick answer

Green is one of ten coloured hexes. Coloured hexes power terminals and satisfy colour-locked routes; chapter 16 hands you three, and the Arena drops more.

Green energy hexes are one of the ten coloured hex types in Resonance of Fate, and they sit at the awkward end of the hex economy: useful, rarely dropped, and needed for terminals you cannot power any other way.

White, coloured and black hexes

Basel's world map starts grey. Nothing on it is walkable until you place an energy hex, and the hex types are not interchangeable:

TypeWhat it doesLimits
White energy hexesOpens a path; unlocks the route to a locationDoes not power terminals at all
Coloured energy hexesOpens a path and powers terminalsRarer, one shape per colour, and must be placed next to a locked hex of the same colour or a coloured Energy Station
Black energy hexesLate-game hexes needed for hidden areasOnly a handful exist, and they drop from specific bosses

Green is one of the ten colours: red, yellow, blue, violet, green, magenta, lavender, teal, lime and brown. Each colour has exactly one shape, which is why a green hex you cannot place is not useless — it is waiting for a green-locked edge.

What coloured hexes are for

Coloured hexes do two jobs that white ones cannot:

  1. Power terminals. A terminal only produces energy of its own colour once you place a coloured hex on it, and its effect then spreads across all connected hexes of that colour.
  2. Satisfy colour-locked routes. Some map edges and terminals require a specific colour to open.

Terminal effects are the payoff. The list includes doubling flame, ice, electricity or poison damage, doubling charge speed, doubling knockdown rate, halving gravity during knockback, reducing status ailments, preventing enemy encounters, and an Effect Amp terminal that doubles the effect of every other connected terminal. A well-powered terminal network changes how a whole district plays.

Where green hexes come from

  • Chapter 16 hands you three. Along with four blue hexes, the final chapter's opening gives Green Energy Hex x3.
  • Arena drops. Coloured hexes are part of the Arena's drop tables, and specific ranks pay specific colours. Green is on the rarer end of that table.
  • Humanoid enemies. Coloured energy hexes are the standard rare drop from humanoid enemies, which is why players farming hexes fight people rather than monsters.

Community farming notes from the original release say green drops are among the slowest to accumulate and that the fastest route is a fixed encounter loop with drop-rate bonuses rather than wandering. The drop-rate lever that actually exists in the game is the terminal network: Luck and Mega Luck terminals, plus Effect Amp, raise item drop chance, and the Lucky Charm accessory adds to it.

The efficient way to build a green network

  1. Place your first green hex on a terminal, not on a random path tile. A green hex spent opening a route is a green hex not powering anything.
  2. Chain same-colour hexes outward from that terminal. Energy flows through connected hexes of the same colour, so adjacency is the whole game.
  3. Link levels through elevators. Setting the top and bottom entrance of an elevator to the same colour shares energy across floors, which is how a single terminal ends up powering two districts.
  4. Watch the requirement sums. Connecting multiple terminals makes the activation requirement the sum of their individual requirements, so a chain of cheap terminals can cost more than one expensive one.
  5. Connect to a dungeon when you can. Terminals linked to a dungeon extend their effect to the whole dungeon, inside and out — the highest-value use of a green network.

What not to do

  • Do not spend coloured hexes on pure routing. White hexes exist for that and are far more common.
  • Do not overwrite a working network casually. Coloured hexes can be overwritten by other colours, which is useful for rebuilding and disastrous if you do it by accident mid-puzzle.
  • Do not dismantle an Energy Station expecting it back. Dismantling destroys it rather than returning the hex.
